One point worth noting from the start: there are 23 bike tour companies around ubud, this group is owned & operated by locals NOT expats, was so pleased to know I was supporting local families. We stayed at a 5 star resort in ubud, the staff were encouraging us to go with a tour group they recommended, but we insisted on Bali on bike after reading the reviews, we were so pleased we did!
The excellent reviews are all spot on. This is a tour for almost anyone, relatively easy bike ride, with option to walk bike, even ride in car following closely below if you've had enough at any stage. Small groups (max 4 riders) plus your guide is just perfect. Our guide was Maday, he was incredibly generous with his knowledge, stories & enthusiasm! We are not "tour people" usually, but this really didn't feel like one, it was just an ideal way to see the country side, views of volcanoes, rice fields, local schools etc. Coffee plantation was interesting, owner was generous with samples of various coffees, we did not feel pushed into buying any at all, was a great way to start the tour. Lunch at tour owners house was lovely, food fresh & tasty (& given we've been eating mostly 5 star food on this trip, fussy eaters can be reassured). These people are incredibly generous. Would actually do it again if I'm ever lucky enough to return to ubud.
