The cycling tour my husband and I took with Bali on Bike was the highlight of our stay in Ubud. I selected BOB based on Trip Advisor ratings and comments and we were not disappointed.  After being picked up right on time we were told that while there were 6 clients that day (which sounded like the average group size for BOB, much smaller than other cycling groups we crossed paths with and read about), the other 4 were being picked up in Seminyak (much farther) and so the group would be split and the 2 of us would have our own guide.  This was a start to a great day.  Our guide Made was great, knowledgeable and helpful and seemed to genuinely enjoy sharing his culture with us.  He adjusted the pace to what we wanted (not very fast), stopped for pictures any time we asked and took pictures of us. The driver was never too far with the van, and was right there when I stopped to adjust the height of my seat. We got to see the real Bali cycling through back roads and pathways and learned a lot about Balinese village life and rice cultivation from Made. We took a walk through a rice field and I got to try threshing rice.  The trip ended with a wonderful Indonesian meal at Bob's home, made by his wife - better than any restaurant meal we had on our trip.  This trip is a definite must if you want to experience the real Bali away from the tourist hotspots.  You can get to places on a bike you can't with a car. The cycling was easy and mostly downhill. A handful of very short hills were a breeze once I mastered gearing down at the right time.  We were mostly away from traffic and on the few stretches of busier roads or crossings Made and our driver kept us safe.  There are a number of cycling tour operators in Bali, but BOB is a small, locally owned business with a genuine and personal touch. We would highly recommend them to anyone coming this way.
