We had made on-line reservations about a month in advance and neglected to confirm in the few days preceeding. No worries, as the guide Moon was there in the lobby waiting for us at the appointed time. Bright and cheerful, he escorted us to the car and off we went to pick up another customer in the Ubud area. As it was “low season”, there was just the 3 of us on the trip. We had a lovely stop at a coffee plantation with a yummy Balinese breakfast treat and a sampling of 10 different coffees. Sampling of the Luwak coffee was extra at 50,000 rupiah per cup. The 3 of us decided to share 1 cup….just for the experience! Next stop was a volcano lookout and then on to pick up our bikes. We were going up a quiet road and suddenly there appeared 4 bikes parked on the side of the road! (brought by the supply van that would follow us the entire way)
The ride took a bit over 3 hours, mostly downhill, practically squeezing the brakes the entire time! Roads were well chosen, virtually traffic-free. Most memorable were the sheer amount of potholes, large and small, EVERYWHERE! The ride was A LOT BUMPIER than expected!! All in all though, a lovely ride through country roads and a chance to see the less touristy side of Bali. Moon was an excellent guide, pointing out things of interest and making sure our group was safe and having a good time.
The ride ended at the owner Bob’s family compound where his wife made a sumptuous lunch feast that we enjoyed outdoors. Bob was there to welcome us and chatted with us amiably during the meal. We felt like royal guests!
Don’t hesitate to choose Bali on Bike (BOB). You will be glad you did!
