This is my second time I've made this ride and again it was every bit as enjoyable as the first time. An early pickup from the Conrad with a long drive across town - don't try to figure out the road rules - you head north towards the Ubud volcano and make your way up to a magnificent viewing area. On the way you get to stop and taste the most expensive coffee in the world - refer to the movie The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Freeman Morgan. After the stop at the viewing area you head on up to the start of the bike ride. There is a great choice of mountain bikes, some with disk brakes and some with the traditional brakes - all with hard tails and shocks on the front. Water and helmets are provided. Don 't forget the sun cream. And away you go. Almost all downhill. Depending on who's in your party you will go at the speed of the slowest member. If you are a expert or novice - just lean back and enjoy. Lots of sites and Bali experiences in the 35 km downhill ride. You can even have a go at harvesting rice - new and old.
Bob or Bob 2 keeps up a running commentary. Their English is excellent - much better than my Indonesian!! If you don't understand or they don't understand just let them know and they'll take the time to ensure you get the picture. E.g. While driving up the mountain I asked why the driver kept honking his horn ! Try explaining what honking your horn means ! After much pantomiming he final got what I was meaning. A lot of fun !
To finish the day we were treated to a wonderful traditional Bali meal - fantastic food - and lots of stories. Great hosts and a wonderful day out.
The journey back to the hotel went through some amazing shopping areas - if you have time worth a stop. Unfortunately you will need a container to get everything home !!
If you visit Bali give BOB a call - a day to remember
